A guys garage has not sissy stuff. Everything is functional. No Junk Tools, No Junk Storage, and certainly not for your average car, truck or motorcycle.

If a man's home is his castle, then a man's garage is his private sanctuary within the castle walls, where he can use and care for the tools and other treasures he holds most dear. The garage wall is often covered with different tools hanging on hooks; some men are so fanatic about keeping their tools organized that they even have outlines of each tool drawn painted around the hook on which it is to be placed. A tool may be idle for years, but it will never be lost.

The garage is also home to the yard tools like snow shovels, rakes, and of course, lawn mowers, and can shelter the barbecue grill and patio furniture when those summer breezes have left for sunnier climes. One of a man's favorite pastimes, in fact, can be to re-organize the garage periodically so that everything stored in it can be inventoried and rearranged to show it off more effectively.

A Man's Garage And His Car

Then, of course, there's the car. Like the prized steeds which left their luxurious stalls to carried many a medieval knight into battle, the car has the place of honor in a man's garage. A man can wash, wax, and work on his car in the friendly confines of his garage, and perhaps even talk or sing to it. He can then ease it from the garage and display it in the driveway for the visual enjoyment of all the neighbors. He can eventually raise his sons in the ways of good "carmanship," teaching them the delights of the garage until they are ready to leave the nest and assume the responsibilities which come with having garages and cars of their own.

The Garage As The Tribal Council Room

The garage, however, can be a bonding place as well as a solitary retreat. Many a family Thanksgiving has seen the after-dinner hours spent with the ladies gathered around the kitchen table while the men are bonding in the garage, enjoying a beer or two, a story, and whatever tobacco products they are not allowed in their homes.

Sports, bosses, politics, and of course tools or cars can all be topics of conversations, but the ability to talk to a sympathetic male ear is often far more rewarding than the subject actually being discussed. The garage is the equivalent of the corner bar, without the bartender or the jukebox. And it it's your buddy's garage and not yours, the beer is free.
